In 1997, Alejandro Amenabar unleashed a brilliant psychological thriller upon the world, titled Abre Los Ojos, or Open Your Eyes. Just a few years later, Cameron Crowe took that thriller and gave it an eclectic twist, creating a near-perfect motion picture experience. Tom Cruise plays the young head of a publishing company. He's rich, he has good friends, and not a care in the world. He falls for a beautiful woman, which makes the friend he's been casually sleeping with jealous. That friend then intentionally crashes her car, killing herself and leaving his face and body disfigured. The rest of the film follows David (Cruise) as he tries to get his life back together. As things begin to look up, everything starts falling apart. What is really going on? The answer lies beyond your wildest dreams. This is definitely a film to watch over and over again.

The alternate ending, which appears on the 2015 blu-ray, is interesting, but the film works much better in its original theatrical version. The alternate ending borrows more from Abre Los Ojos, and it does have some interesting elements in it. It's definitely worth a look for the hardcore Vanilla Sky fan.
