1996 ***** 139 mins.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the film that should have won the Oscar for Best Picture 1996. Don't get me wrong, The English Patient is a great film, but Jerry Maguire has a universal appeal that The English Patient lacks. The English Patient only appeals to a certain demographic, while Jerry Maguire brings everyone together. On one hand, it's a football movie, so the guys are entertained. On the other hand, it's a sweet romance, so the gals are entertained. It's truly a perfect movie. A sports agent loses his job after writing a massive mission statement, in which he speaks his mind. With the single mother who quits to join up with him, he attempts to start a new firm and a new life. They only have one client, played to Oscar-winning perfection by Cuba Gooding, Jr. It's a film that no one's collection should be without.
