1958 ***** 115 mins.

When it comes to underappreciated musicals, Gigi has to be near the top of my list. Sure, it won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1958, but it's nowhere near as acclaimed or as popular as many other musicals in the film world. Gigi is a delightful film with plenty of great Lerner and Loewe songs to spice things up. Leslie Caron plays the tomboy-ish Gigi of the title, a courtesan-in-training in 1900 Paris. Louis Jourdan plays Gaston, a rich playboy who begins to see something more in Gigi than just innocent friendship. Do yourself a favor, and don't overlook this one. It won Best Picture for good reason.
