2010 **** 119 mins.
I'm not overly crazy about this Oscar-winner for Best Picture (2010), but it is a fun film that is very well made. It feels a bit long to me, and the direction is a bit off, but it's still an enjoyable film and a good, safe pick for Best Picture, unlike the Academy's previous winners, The Hurt Locker and Slumdog Millionaire. Colin Firth gives the performance of his career as King George VI, a stammering public figure that seeks the tutelage of a speech therapist, played marvelously by Geoffrey Rush. Helena Bonham Carter is also fantastic as his wife.
