THE DOUBLE LIFE OF VERONIQUE

1991 **** 97 mins.

I think Leonard Maltin worded it best in his review of this film: "Unfolds like a half hour teleplay with a supernatural premise stretched to 1 1/2 hours." The first half hour of this film is stellar, but the hour that follows gets a bit tedious at times. The film is gorgeously shot, and is well worth the hour and a half. I just wish there was a bit more story to go along with the beauty. Irene Jacob plays both Veronique and Weronika. The two women have never met, yet they've shared a lifelong bond. When one of them unexpectedly dies, the other one is left with a hole in her soul that she can't explain.
