LADY IN THE WATER

2006 ***1/2 109 mins.

I don't understand why so many people feel that this is one of the worst films ever made. I found it to be an enchanting, charming fantasy which was very entertaining from first frame to last. M. Night Shyamalan's career went a bit downhill after the success of The Sixth Sense, but I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Is it spectacularly brilliant? No, but it does generate genuine interest and enjoyment. Paul Giamatti works as a fix-it man in an apartment complex. He stumbles upon an ancient bedtime story as he finds a woman in the complex's pool. She's trying to get back to her own world, and he, with the help of various tenants, must help her dodge the dangerous creatures that want to hurt her.
