Joe HIll's rather long novel is a fantasy/horror novel that is quite entertaining, once it gets going. In laying the exposition out for the reader, Hill kind of bumbles and stumbles along, but once the wheels stop spinning and grip the road, the ride is well worth it. Vic McQueen is a woman with all sorts of troubles, but she has a knack for finding things, thanks to her bike and a mysterious covered bridge that provides a shortcut to wherever she needs to go. Charlie Manx is a child abductor who takes his victims to a fantasy land called "Christmasland." How their paths intertwine, then eventually merge is quite wild, and it's one you'll never forget.
