I first watched this film in full screen, on VHS, back in seventh grade. I absolutely loved it. Sixteen years later, I finally watched it a second time, and I loved it just the same. However, it's a tricky film to love, and it appeals to only a certain demographic. It's not a film that's easily watched again and again, but those of us who appreciate the culture enjoy the film once in a while. Ben Kingsley stars in an Oscar-winning performance that is truly uncanny. Ravi Shankar's score stamps the film with an irresistible style. Richard Attenborough's direction is great, if not a bit typical of the type of epic film he's making. All in all, it's a great movie, if not quite perfect.
