What is up with the universe?! Disney Channel is actually putting out some pretty decent films! Descendants is a Disney Channel film that will appeal to not only children, but also to their parents, who grew up watching all the classic Disney films. It takes place in a world where all the classic Disney characters coexist, and all the villains have been banished to their own island. When the son of the Beast decides it's time to give the villains' children a chance, four are selected to come over to the good kids' school, to give them a first chance at a decent life, which they've always been denied. So, we are treated to some great songs and lots of fun as the daughters of Maleficent and the Evil Queen from Snow White and the sons of Jafar and Cruella De Vil transform from the evil hooligans they were raised to be into softer, more friendly citizens of society... Or is it society that's bending to them??? It's a psychological marvel, when you really dig into it, and it delivers a powerful lesson of tolerance and how important it is not to stereotype anybody. As great as the main characters are, it's their villainous parents who steal the show, especially Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent!
