CIMARRON

1931 ****1/2 123 mins.

This Oscar-winning Best Picture is a forgotten masterpiece. In fact, as of the time of this writing, it actually has the lowest rating of any Best Picture winner on IMDb.com. That's really a shame because this Western, based on a novel by Edna Ferber, is highly entertaining from beginning to end. It never drags, and you really feel for the characters. A moving saga about land and love, Cimarron was a milestone for the cinematic Western. This is a film that needs to be seen and discussed more than it is.
