Being the huge Chaplin fan I am, I hate that it took me nearly 20 years to finally finish this book. I tried a few times in that 20 year span to get into this book, but it's just so difficult. Chaplin doesn't talk about what you want him to talk about. We want to hear the stories of the creation of his best films, the antics on set, the creative inspirations. Instead, he gives us, for example, two pages about the making of Modern Times and entire chapters devoted to his meetings of various political people around the world. For every interesting section of the book, there's about five equally uninteresting sections. It's definitely only for the die hard Chaplin fan.
